Program Information/Mission

The Associate in Fine Arts degree in Music study is designed for the music student planning to transfer to a baccalaureate program in music education, music performance, or other professional music degree. The following coursework is required for completion of the Associate in Fine Arts degree in music: (1) four semesters of music theory; (2) four semesters of applied music (private instruction); (3) four semesters of class piano, as needed; (4) four semesters of participation in one or more large ensembles. There are multiple large ensembles in which all ICC students are invited to participate: Concert Band, Hard Bop Jazz Band, Concert Choir, Treble Choir, Guitar Ensemble, and ICC Vocal Jazz. Music students are required to participate in a large ensemble each semester they enroll in Applied lessons. Large ensembles present public concerts at ICC, high schools, and for special groups throughout the college district.

Students completing the Associate in Fine Arts degree may need to take additional classes to complete the IAI General Education Core Curriculum (GECC) package.

Illinois Central College is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

Additional Program Information

When students enter the music program they will be asked to either earn a score of 70% or better on the music theory placement exam or successful completion of MUS 136, and diagnostic audition in primary performance area.
