Program Information/Mission
The Theatre area of study, leading to an associate in arts degree, is designed to prepare students for transfer to a four-year university upon completion of the four-semester program. The program emphasizes the creation of an inclusive, strong, vibrant community and positive creative partnership. We offer study in both Performance and Technical areas, one-on one advisement with classes, and ready assistance to explore possible careers associated with theatre, film, and television. From a best practices reflection of the profession, the Theatre program at ICC prepares students interested in careers such as acting; directing; arts management; educational theatre and arts education, and scenic, costume, lighting, and make-up design. The program produces three shows per year in both a proscenium and studio venue. Immediately upon enrollment with ICC, students are eligible to take on a variety of responsibilities and opportunities within the production process under the careful mentorship of an experienced, invested and creative faculty and staff. With a fully equipped scene shop, lighting, costume shop, and full dressing and makeup rooms, students can earn hands on credit working both onstage and off. This practical experience is invaluable and allows the student the opportunity to gain insight and understanding of the theatrical process while building a portfolio of work to assist in their success in achieving their plans for the future.
