Goal

GOAL 1 Students will apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to competently deliver patient-centered care.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will demonstrate the professional nursing concepts integral to deliver safe, patient-centered care to individuals across the lifespan utilizing the nursing process.
2. Students will demonstrate best practices while performing nursing skills using proper techniques and measures that ensure patient safety.

GOAL 2 Students will demonstrate safe nursing practice.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will practice safely and ethically within the healthcare system according to the nursing practice act, healthcare policy, and National Patient Safety Goals.
2. Students will apply legal, ethical and regulatory implications related to patient safety to minimize risk of harm to individuals, members of the healthcare team and self in the clinical setting.

GOAL 3 Students will demonstrate utilization of information technology to support clinical decision making.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will utilize information technology to communicate, manage data, mitigate error, and support decision-making in the delivery of patient-centered care.
2. Students will apply technology and information management tools to support safe processes of care, patient education, and evaluate impact on individual outcomes.

GOAL 4 Students will develop communication skills to effectively communicate and collaborate within the healthcare environment.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will demonstrate effective communication through various means including verbal, written, and electronic methods.
2. Students will communicate professionally and effectively while safely providing therapeutic care to individuals across the lifespan.
3. Students will collaborate with the individual and family and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to assist with continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.

GOAL 5 Students will develop the attributes and roles of the practical nurse.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will demonstrate professional behavior, communication, and interpersonal skills necessary to function as a member of the nursing profession and the healthcare team in the clinical/healthcare setting.
2. Students will examine one’s role as a practical nurse in ways that reflect integrity, responsibility, accountability, ethical practices, and an evolving professional identity as a nurse committed to evidence-based practice, caring, advocacy, and quality care.
3. Students will develop strategies for the successful transition into nursing practice that include NCLEX preparation and licensure.
4. Students will develop a plan for lifelong learning activities to promote personal and career growth.

GOAL 6 Students will develop critical thinking skills utilizing the nursing process to manage care under supervision.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will utilize the nursing process to provide safe and effective nursing care for individuals across the lifespan with alterations in health.
2. Students will assist in coordination of care and resources for individuals and/or families to facilitate optimal individual and organizational outcomes.

GOAL 7 Students will apply quality improvement processes to deliver safe, quality care.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will adhere to legal, ethical and regulatory standards in conjunction with current nursing research and risk management strategies to provide and maintain an environment of safety and continuous quality improvement.
2. Students will contribute to evidence-based nursing practice by participating in improvement strategies/processes to improve the quality and safety of healthcare systems.

GOAL 8 Students will apply principles of evidence-based practice to deliver safe, quality care.

Learning Outcomes

1. Students will utilize principles of evidence-based practice while safely providing therapeutic nursing care to individuals across the lifespan in the healthcare system.
2. Students will utilize scientific and evidence-based knowledge, regarding alterations in health, to guide nursing actions to promote and maintain safe, quality care that takes into consideration the individual’s preferences, experiences, and values to support clinical reasoning and nursing judgment.

Goal

GOAL 9 Graduates will be prepared to be entry level Licensed Practical Nurses.

Learning Outcomes

1. Graduates will successfully pass the NCLEX-PN as first-time test takers.
2. Graduates pursuing employment will be employed in nursing practice as a licensed practical nurse within 12 months of program completion.
3. Graduates will complete the program within two years from admission to the program.
4. Graduates will be satisfied with the adequacy and effectiveness of the Practical Nursing Program in preparing them to practice as an entry level Licensed Practical Nurse.
5. Employers will be satisfied with the graduate’s overall preparation to practice as an entry-level Licensed Practical Nurse.
